Commemorative Tree Planting
On Sunday 24th March 2024 the Hall's Committee, Trustees and local residents were honoured to host
Lady Colgrain, the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, who planted a tree in the garden to commemorate His Majesty King Charles III's Coronation and the Hall's own 100th anniversary. The wet weather duly rolled away and we stood in sunshine as our Chairman, James Calvocoressi, introduced guests to Lady Colgrain. She was aided in the planting by Committee member Christopher St Pierre who had chosen a Japanese Maple for the occasion because this species is apparently liked by the King.

Significant Improvements to the Hall
During the winter 2022/23 two significant upgrades have been made to Markbeech Village Hall to coincide with its centenary.
Firstly, a brand-new kitchen has been installed with a blend of kitchen units and high performance commercial-standard appliances, in a modern colour scheme, meeting the latest hygiene requirements. Secondly, a major make-over of the garden with a new extended patio with disabled access. The old sheds have been removed, new flower beds created with planting and integral seating, and new fencing to the side entrance. So now the village hall can host catered parties both inside and in a pleasant secure garden.
Pictures of both improvements can be seen on our Facilites page
The works were carried out by local trades people, TrueBuild of Edenbridge for the kitchen and Stuart Raeburn, the garden renewal.
Additionally, there is a renewed heating system, flooring, redecoration, and several other improvements, making the hall look really attractive.
We thank the following donors for their generous financial support to our 2 main projects: -
The Bernard Sunley Foundation
David & Molly Borthwick
The Foyle Foundation
The Garfield Weston Foundation
Hever Parish Council
Kent Community Foundation
Kent County Council Combined Members Grant
The National Lottery Community Fund.

Waitrose Community Matters collection during August 2019 in Edenbridge Store
Markbeech Village Hall featured as one of 3 charities which shoppers helped during August. Waitrose donated £1000 to be shared across the 3 charities according to how many green tokens shoppers deposited in each charity’s bin. We are delighted to have raised £296 through this scheme and thank all our supporters for their contribution and efforts. The money is important to us and goes towards keeping the Hall well maintained for all our local clubs, committees and social events.
AGMs 2019 & 2020
The 2019 AGM was held on Thursday 16th May. The Chairman and officers reported on the successful continuing use of the Hall and garden for local events and organisations, along with the considerable improvements made during the year to these facilities.
Local villagers are welcome, and indeed encouraged, to come along to the next Markbeech Village Hall Annual General Meeting. The officers, who are all volunteers, give a summary of the management of this valuable facility and invite input from all those present. The meeting lasts approximately 30 minutes and is followed by a free drinks social gathering.
This is a good opportunity to meet your neighbours!
The next AGM will be held in the hall at 7pm on Thursday 21st May 2020.
